Delicious, unpretentious, nourishing food. I am vegan and had absolutely delicious vegetable dishes and their bean stew (crapiata) was perfect. The servers were so lovely and food came out at the perfect speed. We went two nights in a row. During busy season/weekends, make sure to come 10 minutes before opening to wait in line outside, as there’s usually a crowd.
If you're looking for authentic food and local atmosphere, this is the place to eat in Matera. Eggplant lasagna is absolutely delicious and so is the Cavatelli alla lucana.
Hidden gem! The food was outstanding, the service second to none. We’ll definitely go again! 6/5 stars
Not as special as I was advised for. The food was ok but was expecting some character inside the place.
This place is a delight. Has a wonderful variety of menu offerings. Welcoming staff and the dishes taste like your Nonna made them. No reservations so arrive early. You won’t be disappointed on any level… Nice vino and desserts also. We each tried something different and shared with one another. Highly recommend
A HIDDEN GEM THAT FEELS LIKE HOME This family-owned restaurant, run for generations, is an absolute hidden gem! I came in expecting good food based on the ratings, but wow—they completely blew me away! From the moment we stepped in, we were treated not like customers, but like family. The owner, who also happens to be the chef, personally made sure we had everything we needed and even offered us free samples of local delicacies—such a thoughtful and generous touch. The service was impeccable—attentive, warm, and genuine. The atmosphere is cozy and homey, making it the kind of place you instantly feel comfortable in. The food? Absolutely nourishing—not just for the body, but for the soul. Every dish is made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and it shows in the flavor and care that go into each plate. This place is a true trattoria, living up to its name in every way. I can’t recommend it enough to anyone visiting the area. You have to eat here—and yes, I’ll definitely be coming back!
Great trattoria with great tradionale local cuisine, no booking required but get there for opening time if you are going for dinner, we arrived 5 minutes before opening and there was a queue of about twenty five people. The service, wine and of course the food are fantastico. If staying in Matera for a couple of nights , Recommend
Traditional & local dishes from the region. We arrived around 1pm on a Friday. There was no queue but the place soon filled up quickly. The menu is both in Italian and English should translation be needed. We had the stuffed pepper antipasti and lasagna was delicious. We also ordered the steak which came on a hot plate, nicely cooked to medium but a little done on the ends. Otherwise plenty of other options for choice. Paolo was our server who was very attentive & lovely and I would recommend this place in Matera if you’re looking for a nice and easy meal. (the resto is in the new town of Matera).
